Scholarships for Mississippi Residents
If you live in Mississippi, then you already have something in common with William Faulkner, Elvis Presley and Oprah Winfrey, all of whom were born in the Magnolia State. But did you know that your Mississippi residency may also qualify you for a number of college scholarships? Many of the available scholarships are provided by the state itself, including Mississippi Higher Education Legislative Plan, the Mississippi Eminent Scholars Grant, Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant and the Nissan Scholarship. Others are offered by individual schools, such as the University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University, Jackson State University and Hinds Community College. Students who wish to apply to any of these scholarships will generally be required to meet a minimum grade point average, and may also be required to display financial need, demonstrate academic achievement or write a submission essay.
