Robert W. Mong, Jr. Journalism Scholarship is provided to high school seniors who wants to pursue a career in journalism. The scholarship grants three one-year $1,500 fund. The program was established in 2010 to support students in pursuing their college education.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Residence:
    The scholarship is open to residents of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Kaufman, Rockwall or Tarrant County. The applicant must be a legal, permanent resident with a permanent resident card (or U.S. Citizen).
  • Citizenship:
    The applicant must be a U.S. Citizen (or legal, permanent resident with a permanent resident card).
  • School:
    The applicant must be a graduating senior of a North Texas High school and meet the geographic residency requirements.
  • College:
    The applicant must be pursuing a four-year degree.
  • Major/Career:
    The awardee must plan to pursue a four-year degree in journalism and show a demonstrated aptitude for print journalism.

  • Essay:
    The application must include an essay, double-spaced, not to exceed two pages, indicating why you are pursuing a career in Journalism.
  • Recommendation Letters:
    The applicant must submit two letters of recommendation (one from an instructor, one personal or professional).
  • Portfolio/Work Samples:
    The application must include two samples demonstrating an aptitude for print journalism.
  • Other Materials:
    The application must include a description of your community service experience (hours, projects worked on or organizations worked with not to exceed two pages double-spaced).
