Nearly 200,000 people live in Kanawha County, West Virginia, and if you’re one of them then you might be eligible for one or more college scholarships. More than 500 scholarships are administered by the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, which awards more than $500,000 to qualifying students annually. Others are funded by nearby universities and colleges, such as the University of Charleston, Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College, West Virginia State University and Bridgemont Community and Technical College. In general, potential recipients will be required to meet a minimum grade point average, provide proof of academic excellence, meet a certain level of financial need, pursue a certain field of study or all of the above.
