The Kruse Scholarship

Heartland Foundation

Funded by Mosaic Life Care and managed by Heartland Foundation, this scholarship provides financial assistance to first-year graduate students who are permanent residents or originate from one of the counties within the specified Mosaic Life Care service region studying fields that will lead to improving the quality of life for the residents of this region. The area of study includes, but not limited to Health Care Administration, Early Childhood Development, Not-For-Profit Management, and Educational Leadership.

    Enrolled full-time in a minimum of 9 hours per semester in a study area leading to improved quality of life for the residents of our region; Maintain an excellent Grade Point Average
  • Residence:
    Must be permanent residents or originate from the Mosaic Life Care service region which includes the following counties IN MISSOURI: Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Caldwell, Carroll, Clay, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Holt, Livingston, Mercer, Nodaway, Platte, and Worth; IN IOWA: Decatur, Fremont, Page, Ringgold, and Taylor; IN KANSAS: Atchison, Brown, Doniphan, and Nemaha; and IN NEBRASKA: Nemaha and Richardson
  • Major/Career:
    Must be enrolled in a study area of (but not limited to) Health Care Administration, Early Childhood Development, Not-For-Profit Management, and Educational Leadership
  • Miscellaneous:
    Recipients must agree to complete a paid internship (not to exceed $5,000) between their first and second year. Paid internship will take place, when appropriate, with a not-for-profit agency or Mosaic Life Care (formerly Heartland Health) in St. Joseph, MO.

    Application Narrative: 1. State why you are applying for this scholarship and how it will enhance your professional and career goals over the next five years. 2. What other financial resources have you received or applied for (financial aid, scholarships, or loan programs)? Please include dollar amounts. 3. Information related to the educational program you are pursuing including: Name of institution and number of credit hours in which you are enrolled; Previous semester Grade Point Average and Cumulative Grade Point Average. 4. List any awards or honors received, extracurricular activities including community involvement, hobbies and interests. 5. Please include a brief personal bio. 6. Explain how your area of study will lead to improved quality of life for our communities and residents of our region.
  • Recommendation Letters:
    At least two currently dated letters of recommendation, on letterhead where applicable, with authors name, position and relationship to applicant
  • Other Materials:
    Proof of enrollment in an accredited graduate program (Acceptance letter from institution or class schedule with credit hours enrolled)
