The scholarship was established by Margaret Evans Berdan in memory of her friend Katharine MacConnell Grosscup, a talented gardener, enthusiastic conservationist and active member of the Shaker Lakes Garden Club in Ohio. It encourages rising college sophomores, juniors, seniors and Masters degree candidates to the study of horticulture and related fields.
