This scholarship was created in 1999 in memory of Phil Shykes, a long-time resident of Duluth. Mr. Shykes was a well-respected businessman and established and built Miller Mall Auto Parts Inc. He valued the significance of high education and had a commitment to provide financial assistance to those in need to pursue a trade or career. This scholarship was intended to benefit graduating seniors from Hermantown High School pursuing any post-secondary education.
