The American Indian Science and Engineering Society administered this scholarship on behalf of the NextEra Energy Foundation. NextEra Energy Foundation, Inc. is a private foundation organized as a not-for-profit corporation for the purpose of financially assisting charitable, scientific, literacy and educational organizations. Nextra believes that through this scholarship, additional skill sets will be brought back to impacted tribal communities and ensure that these communities benefit from the growing trends in clean energy.This scholarship aims to benefit members of 11 participating Arizona and California Indian Tribes pursuing educations at accredited four-year colleges/ universities, two-year colleges, or vocational schools.

    1,500-word Essay. The essay is evaluated by reviewers and it is expected to address educational and/or career goals, decision for undertaking their area of study, interest in and motivation to continue higher education, demonstrate an understanding of the importance of college and the students commitment to complete the educational program undertaken, and demonstrate the students plan and/or desire to make a difference in or impact their community.
  • Recommendation Letters:
    Letters of Recommendation: Students must submit TWO (2) letters of recommendation. We require one letter from an individual familiar with your academic success (teacher, advisor, professor). The second letter may be submitted by a non-relative who is familiar with your academic and other achievements. Students will utilize the scholarship application platform to request recommendations. Be prepared with recommenders email information and be sure to allow them time to submit before the deadline.
