American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation

This scholarship was established to support strong doctoral candidates pursuing a teacher-investigator career in the academic environment in a university/college level. Applicants must be currently enrolled in, a research doctoral program (PhD or equivalent) in communication sciences and disorders. Student's membership of either NSSLHA or ASHA is a must.

  • Other Academic Requirements:
    Students with full-time status (nine hours or more per semester requirement or the university equivalent for the quarter system) will be given priority. However, students with part-time status will be considered.
  • Major/Career:
    Students should be committed to a teacher-investigator career in communication sciences and disorders in the United States of America.
  • Organization:
    Students must be either NSSLHA member or an ASHA member at the time of application.

  • Recommendation Letters:
    Three confidential letters of recommendations must be submitted on behalf of the applicant. Of the three letters, at least one must be from the applicant's department. Two letters can be from other references familiar with the applicant's academic history and potential.Recommendation letters should:indicate the applicant's potential for doctoral study;note student qualities that will contribute to successful completion of doctoral study;comment on the student's level of commitment to a career as a teacher-investigator; andexplain other factors that may contribute to the applicant's potential for career success.Request a Recommendation: Recommenders must upload their letter of recommendation, as a PDF file, to the online application system. Through the online application system, applicants can request recommendations by providing the names and e-mail addresses of their three recommenders. Once this contact information is provided, recommenders will receive an e-mail message from [email protected] requesting a letter of recommendation and providing submission instructions.
