National Spirit of Youth Scholarship

American Legion Auxiliary - Department of Michigan

This scholarship was established to benefit high school seniors who have been Junior members of the American Legion Auxiliary for the past three consecutive years (2014, 2015 and 2016). Applicants must continue her membership in the American Legion Auxiliary during the four-year-scholarship period. Applicants must attend an accredited institution of higher education.

    Award selection will be based on Character/Leadership 30%, Essay/Application 30% and Scholarship 40%.

  • Essay:
    An original essay consisting of no more than 1,000 words (typed, double-spaced). The title of the essay will be "How Pride in Country, Community, School and Family directs your daily life?"
  • Recommendation Letters:
    a. One letter from either the principal or guidance counselor of the school from which the applicant will graduate, to include size of class and student's position in the class and the cumulative grade point average.b. One letter from a clergyman/clergywoman of the applicant's choice.c. Two letters from adult citizens, other than relatives, attesting to the applicant's character in regard to conduct, citizenship and leadership.
  • Other Materials:
    A completed application form;A copy of ACT or SAT test scores;A copy of the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form, or a copy of the FAFSA Summary Report and Confirmation Page, or the FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR).
