Nathalie Rutherford Scholarship is an annual scholarship given to a high school senior attending school in Fairfield or Westchester County. The applicant must plan to pursue a further study in vocal or choral music. The applicant must submit a cassette recording or a CD or an MP3 of his/her performance of 10-15 minutes of solo vocal music with or without accompaniment to qualify.

Application Details

  • Judging Criteria:
    The Nathalie Rutherford Scholarship Award is given solely on the basis of musical qualification. Applicants are not asked to send statements of financial need. The scholarship award is $1,000. We award up to two scholarships a year.

    Please describe your plans for continuing the study of vocal music and/or any other musical aspirations you may have.
  • Portfolio/Work Samples:
    Each applicant must submit a cassette recording or a CD or an MP3 of his/her performance of 10-15 minutes of solo vocal music with or without accompaniment. We suggest putting ones favorite, age-appropriate piece at the beginning of the CD or MP3. Please mark the CD clearly with your name and the names and composers of the selections. The selections should be representative of three of the following four periods or categories of music:a. Renaissance or Baroque solo song,b. 19th century Art Song in German, Italian or French,c. 20th century Art Song, preferably in English, ord. Aria from an opera or oratorio of any period.
