This scholarship was established by Louis J. and Mary Ellen Schultz who were lifelong Santa Cruz residents. Mary was a teacher and Louis worked at the Opal Cliffs Market. They had no children but wanted to do something for the youth of Santa Cruz County and so they started this scholarship. This scholarship is open to graduating seniors or graduates from a high school in Santa Cruz County who are planning to attend an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational school. This is a renewable scholarship for up to four years. Financial need is required.
