This scholarship was established by David L. Shearer on December 2, 2008 to benefit women seeking education to re-enter the workforce. This scholarship was created to acknowledge Cheryl Shearer's dedication to education. Cheryl realized the importance of education and was very supportive and encouraging to all re-entry students. This opportunity is open to females who recently (within the past two years) returned to higher education after a gap of at least two years and have graduated from a Ventura County high school, GED recipients or attended but did not complete college in Ventura County. Applicants must be planning to pursue and undergraduate degree or certificate program at an accredited community college or four-year college or university.

    Required essay topic: Discuss your decision to return to school, explain what you hope to achieve with your degree or certificate, and tell us why seeking your degree or certificate is important to your future success. Prior recipients may re-apply for consideration in successive years.
  • Recommendation Letters:
    Two letters of recommendation. Neither person is a relative. Both recommenders gave me a working email address to use in my application. AT LEAST ONE of the recommenders is a current faculty member a teacher/professor teaching at the school I currently attend.
