Oklahoma City Community Foundation
Carolyn Watson Opportunities Scholarship is an endowed scholarship fund of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. This was established in 2009 by Carolyn Watson to provide scholarship support for students in rural Oklahoma. This scholarship is open to seniors and graduates of rural Oklahoma high schools who will pursue studies at any academically accredited non-for-profit educational institution in the United States.

Eligibility Requirements
- Age/Grade Level:Applicants must be graduating seniors of Oklahoma high schools.
- Minimum GPA:3.50
- Financial Need:Required
- Other Academic Requirements:Exceptional ability and excels beyond the local high school environment in one of the following areas must be demonstrated by the nominee: arts and humanities, science and engineering or community leadership.
- Residence:Applicants must be residents of rural Oklahoma counties (excludes 15 metropolitan counties in the Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Lawton Metropolitan Statistical Area as defined by the U.S. Census).
- School:Applicants must be graduating seniors of Oklahoma high schools.
- College:Educational institutions must be academically accredited, nonprofit institutions. Distance/online programs will not be approved.
- Other Benefits:Applicants may use the funds on the cost of tuition, fees, required books and supplies, and room and board in on-campus, institutional housing only.

- Essay:Please write about one of the following topics. Please limit to 500 words: (1) Describe a character from a book or play that you would trade places with, and explain why? (2) If you were a scientist today, what would you hope to discover and why? (3) Some people believe that students arent learning enough in high school. Should school standards be higher? Explain your answer using specific reasons and examples.
- Recommendation Letters:Applicants must submit references that includes names and email addresses of the guidance counselors, teachers and/or administrators who will write letters of recommendation. One is required for the General Application; certain scholarships may require up to three.
- Other Materials:Applicants must submit FAFSA Electronic Student Aid Report or page 1 and 2 of their households most recent IRS 1040 tax form.
