Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation, Inc.

The scholarship was created to honor the memory of Marriott's co-founder and mother of Chairman and CEO Bill Marriott. To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must be an undergraduate student who is majoring in Hospitality Management or Hotel/Motel Management curriculum at a degree granting institution.

    In your essay, explain your understanding of what the hospitality industry entails. Please write about specific careers that interest you in the hospitality industry, and what your career goal is upon graduation. Discuss the skills and leadership characteristics you possess that will make you successful in the hospitality industry. Be specific as possible in your answer, using personal experiences and examples. Essay should not exceed two double-spaced typewritten pages.
  • Recommendation Letters:
    Three (3) letters of recommendations. The letters of recommendation are a key component of your application. They should be from persons who can attest to your character, interpersonal relationships, and academic achievements. We suggest you ask a teacher, school counselor, employer, neighbor, or family friend, but should not come from family members or peers.
