Albert Raphael and Alta May Barnett Scholarship is given to a graduating senior of Edinburgh Community High School. The scholarship is created in memory of Albert Raphael and Alta May (Fix) Barnett to support students who want to pursue their college education.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Age/Grade Level:
    Applicant must be a graduating senior high school.
  • Minimum GPA:
    2.50
  • Financial Need:
    Preferred
  • Other Academic Requirements:
    The student must plan to enroll full-time in college.
  • Residence:
    Applicant must be a resident of the Edinburg school district.
  • School:
    The student must be a graduating senior from Edinburgh Community High School.
  • College:
    The awardee must plan to enroll full-time in an accredited four-year private college in Indiana or four-year college or university in another state.
  • Extracurricular:
    Students must be involved with church activities or Fellowship of Christian Athletes, leadership activities, special circumstances, etc.
  • Miscellaneous:
    Preference is given to individuals who can demonstrate through the application that they are stepping outside the box.

  • Essay:
    Provide a 250-word essay answering one of the following three questions: 1) Describe someone other than a teacher or parent who has served as a good role model for you and why. 2) What characteristics do you believe are necessary to be a positive contributor to our community and the world today? 3) Explain how you have benefited from attending a small school in Edinburgh and how that will also benefit you in your higher education.
  • Recommendation Letters:
    Provide one letter of recommendation from a non-family member, such as a minister, employer, coach, community/service group leader, etc.
